For the past eighteen years, David and Carol Eddleman have found the Maine shoreline irresistible and journeyed each summer to cottages by the sea in Deer Isle, Birch Harbor, and other coastal villages. Carol had ancestors in several areas of Downeast Maine, so part of each trip included visits to historical societies and sites. When they first walked through the Captain Bennis House in July 2017, the house seemed to speak to them. Unable to resist its allure, they purchased the house. After visiting the Sullivan-Sorrento Historical Society and purchasing the book "A Bicentennial History of Sullivan, Maine" they learned why. One of Carol's early ancestors, Amey Paul, had married Daniel Sullivan, the man who the town was named after!
